Please bear with us this week as we move the major office systems to their temporary new homes. Our email and phone service will be disrupted during that time. We plan on resuming email and phone service by Monday, October 14th, 2009. Thank you for your patience.
The Story:
During the Summer of 2008, as the stock markets began to become unstable, TNL assembled a group of financially savvy individuals to advise the Elders on how we should best invest the resources that God has given us. Unanimously these advisors explained that the best investment that TNL could make in current market conditions was to invest our savings into an office building and stop paying rent for office space.
Prayerfully following this advice the elders asked the staff to locate suitable options, hoping and praying that God would provide the perfect space. We think He has…
Introducing 3220 S. Acoma St.
The Next Level Church has purchased 3220 S. Acoma St., which is located behind the Gothic Theater in downtown Englewood.
The property is about 5,800 sq. ft., which is 50% larger than our current offices. In addition to the building, the property comes with a small parking lot with about 20 parking spaces.
We are excited about this new opportunity for our church and we hope to address a number of the questions that we have been asked about the purchase of a building here. However, if you have additional questions, please email Dave Terpstra.
FAQ:
Why buy an office building? (Part 1 - Financial)
About 9 years ago TNL embarked on a capital fundraising campaign to purchase a building to meet in. That same year our senior pastor resigned in the middle of the campaign. Left without a sufficient amount of funds to pursue the purchase of a building to meet in on Tuesday nights, TNL chose to faithfully invest those funds and use the interest on those investments to strategically advance what God was doing through our church.
Now, because we moved our money out of the markets before their collapse, we are left with a significant amount of money to invest in an office building. Therefore, we are able to pay cash for the new space. And although we will need to take out a $200,000 loan to help cover construction costs of the necessary renovation of the building, we believe that the purchase of this building will provide a net savings of about $2000 per month. That is money that we can put back into our budget during difficult financial times, and invest in the Kingdom as the economy improves.
Why buy an office building? (Part 2 – Opportunity)
TNL has four full-time staff members and a number of part-time staff member who work 15 hours a week or less. Besides functioning as the day-to-day space for the operations of TNL, our hope is for the new office building to become a hub for our community. It will have a great conference room, office space for the staff, quiet rooms for prayer and counseling as well as places to study and create.
Classroom Space
The new office will be a great place for classes to meet. Instead of continuing to borrow space from other churches to hold classes and meetings, we will have a more suitable building where we can gather together to learn and grow in classrooms that have the TNL vibe.
Small Gathering Space
Throughout the year, we hold smaller services for Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Enteraction, etc. Our hope is to have a small auditorium in our new office building where we can host smaller events and gatherings.
Will we continue to meet at Greenwood Community Church on Tuesdays?
Yes! A couple of years ago the elders of TNL wrestled with the question of whether or not TNL would ever choose to meet on a Sunday morning. They decided that God has given TNL a unique calling and vision for a church in Denver. And part of that vision is to meet on Tuesdays.
Most church buildings remain relatively unused throughout the week. And because of the number of friends we have around town, TNL has a unique opportunity to rent space on Tuesday nights. Renting space for worship services is a significant savings over a mortgage payment for the size facility TNL needs on Tuesday nights. And we believe it is the most responsible investment on our part to share space with other churches.
Our friendship with Greenwood Community Church is stronger than ever, and we hope to meet at Greenwood on Tuesdays for the foreseeable future.
Will our new office building be used exclusively by TNL?
Our hope is that in the same way that other churches have blessed TNL over the years by sharing their space with us, we would have the opportunity to share our new space as well. We don’t know how this will play out or who God might lead us to partner with along the way. But our attitude will be to pass the blessing of a facility on to others in the same way that other churches have been generous with us. |
